This is an intensive class for students who want to learn how to perform Shakespeare like professionals. Using some of the world’s most famous plays and something called “first folio technique,” students will learn to make Shakespeare’s language roll “trippingly on the tongue,” making complicated text accessible to everyone. Actors will learn the fundamentals of voice and text techniques through group and individual exercises over the course of four weeks.

Susanna Wilson began her professional theatre career as an actor in Washington State more than twenty-five years ago, earning her Equity card as “Annelle” in Steel Magnolias.  As a director, adapter, and producer, Susanna has been instrumental in bringing more than 30 works to the stage for multiple companies in the Pacific Northwest, including Book-It Repertory Theatre (a “page-to-stage” company), Seattle Public Theatre, ArtsWest Playhouse, Theater Schmeater, and Seattle Shakespeare Company, to name a few.  She has helped nine seasons of outdoor summer Shakespeare to hit the grass with Wooden O (the outdoor arm of Seattle Shakespeare Company, and Greenstage.  From 2008 – 2010, Susanna served as the Artistic Director of SecondStory Repertory Theatre in Redmond.  Susanna received her undergraduate degree in Drama from the University of Washington, and completed a master’s degree in Theatre Practice at the University of Exeter in England, which included a residency at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre. As a teacher, Susanna has facilitated theatre classes and workshops for people of all ages in a variety of theatrical disciplines, including auditioning, musical theatre, Shakespeare, directing, devising, mask, scene study, improvisation, and adapting fiction to the stage.
